action and inaction: what does the work mean?
We know that life does not hand out bouquets. Flowers do not just appear in the world. They are planted in the dirt. They stratify in the cold dark underneath. They wait for the appropriate season to arrive.
And a life of meaning, grown too, over time, from the tiniest seeds. Meaning is cultivated—chop wood, carry water. That is what a teacher told me.
But really we just need to look. Flowers actually do just grow. They grow in the world. The work they require is the work that they are and the work they do. Maybe we just need to say thank you. Practice gratitude. And look at the world instead of ourselves.
